Save backups: 1.0.4 policy & the 1.0.5 boundary

Keep the documented backup policy separate from 1.0.5 fixes, Cloud and an untested normalized Windows reference path.

Official 1.0.4 statements · path unresolved · not recovery-tested
Reviewed · No hands-on testing

Direct answer

The documented backup policy comes from 1.0.4: up to five full-world backups per slot, independent of Steam Cloud, first after one minute and then every 30 minutes. The 1.0.5 announcement does not introduce a new backup policy or tell you to start a new world.

What 1.0.5 does—and does not—change

The 1.0.5 announcement reports loading, completion and performance fixes. It announces no new backup cadence, location, retention count or save-format compatibility rule. Do not infer a required new world, overwrite or downgrade from those fixes.

The policy and compatibility statements below are explicitly from 1.0.4. They are not proof that every later save format is interchangeable. The malformed original path and untested normalized reference remain limitations of this guide.

What the automatic backups cover

The 1.0.4 announcement describes full-world backups for each save slot, with a maximum of five retained per slot. The first is made one minute into a session; later backups follow at 30-minute intervals. This is a separate mechanism from Steam Cloud, so Cloud support alone does not describe that backup policy.

The developer also describes automatic repair from a backup when a damaged world is loaded, with a notification, and a check on the next launch after a crash. These are official behavior statements; we have not tested corruption detection, backup availability or recovery success.

Where is the backup folder?

The original announcement’s visible text renders this exact string without normal path separators:

C:Users[user-name]AppDataLocalLowDragDropGamesMoonSweepersBackups

This is a transcription of the malformed page text, not a working path to paste into File Explorer. The recognizable folder sequence is LocalLow → DragDropGames → MoonSweepers → Backups. The exact usable game folder still needs independent verification; a normalized reference is not a verified location.

Microsoft documents the standard Windows LocalLow root as %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow. Combining that Windows default with the announcement’s folder sequence gives this normalized reference only, not verified on a game installation:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\DragDropGames\MoonSweepers\Backups

This is an editorial normalization, not the exact text displayed by the developer. It does not establish that the folder exists on every installation or that restoring from it works. No copy or restore action is performed here.

Open the official 1.0.4 announcement below for the primary reference. If you cannot identify the folder confidently, ask the developer for a corrected path rather than experimenting with unrelated directories.

Protect the original before changing versions

The developer explicitly states that 1.0.4 saves cannot be opened in older game versions. Do not use an old troubleshooting post as a reason to downgrade a world saved in 1.0.4.

Checks stay in this page’s memory. Nothing is sent or saved.

We provide no manual overwrite, deletion, downgrade or recovery procedure. A backup policy does not guarantee that a particular world can be recovered. Do not publish save folders, credentials or complete personal Windows paths when asking for help.
